Autorijschool New Drivers is a one man driving school in Waddinxveen, in the province of South Holland, run by driving instructor Ronald Kivits since 2018. Lessons for the Dutch category B licence are given in an automatic Volkswagen Golf e-Hybrid, in Dutch or in English.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Ronald Kivits. After working for several years in account management, sales and purchasing at companies such as Ahold and PostNL, I thought it was high time for something completely different. Because my passion has always been training, coaching and guiding people, I started my training to become a certified driving instructor in October 2017. In 2018 I started my own driving school under the name New Drivers.
From 2022 I also passed the exam to become a certified RIS coach and instructor, and in April 2026 I passed my exam as a RIS 2.0 coach and instructor. RIS stands for Driver Training in Steps, a modular driver course developed together with the Dutch CBR.

Driving lessons in English
If you are thinking about starting driving lessons to get your Dutch driving licence, and you want to be taught by an English speaking instructor, learn the theory in an English practice module, and use the pre lesson modules in English as well, then New Drivers can do all of that.
- One instructor, your whole course. You always have the same person next to you, and you call or WhatsApp him directly.

The training car
Unique in the region is that at New Drivers you can take your driving lessons in a Volkswagen Golf e-Hybrid 50 Edition with automatic transmission. A car that is completely up to date: better for the environment and fully equipped. It drives up to 142 kilometres fully electric and then continues on the petrol engine.
All ADAS systems are present, which stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems: full map navigation, adaptive cruise control, rear view camera, park distance control, blind spot sensor, pedestrian recognition, forward and rear collision warning, lane assist, front assist, traffic sign recognition, light and rain sensor, auto hold and comfort seats.
Since 1 January 2024 the CBR examiner may also ask questions about these driver assistance systems before the exam drive. Because you learn in a car that has all of them, you get to know them along the way. The car also has a camera system, filming the road ahead and the cabin. Recordings are always fully erased, are never used for anything else and your permission is asked in advance.
Theory in English
ON MY WAY THEORY is a complete online theory course inside your student app, and it is available in English as standard. You can start straight away with everything you need to take part in traffic safely, independently and smoothly, and to pass the theory exam at the CBR.
To take the CBR practical exam at the end of your course, you must hold a valid theory certificate, so starting early is wise. Since 7 April 2025 the Dutch theory exam for category B consists of 50 questions in one continuous part, with one result. You pass when you answer at least 44 questions correctly within 30 minutes.
You can keep using ON MY WAY THEORY during your entire course, even after you have passed the theory exam, so you always have a reference for topics you find difficult. The module costs 59 euro separately and is free with every package.
Rates
A single driving lesson at New Drivers costs 70 euro per 60 minutes. Many students prefer the convenience of a total package: you receive a discount on the lesson price, a free trial lesson worth 70 euro and the theory module worth 59 euro for free. All prices are effective from 1 August 2026, include 21 percent VAT, and there are no registration fees.

When purchasing a package, additional lessons remain at the lesson price within the chosen package, and any unused lesson fees are refunded once you pass. Payment in instalments is possible with all packages. All prices include 21 percent VAT, except the fees charged by the CBR, which are exempt from VAT and already included in the amounts shown.

When may I start?
You can take the theory exam when you are 16 years old. From the age of 16,5 you may start taking driving lessons. From the day you turn 17 you may take your practical test at the CBR. If you pass, you may drive under the supervision of one or more pre designated coaches through the 2toDrive scheme. From the age of 18 you may drive completely independently.
Working area
New Drivers teaches in Waddinxveen, Boskoop, Gouda, Reeuwijk, Moordrecht, Moerkapelle and Bodegraven, the area in the middle of the Groene Hart between Rotterdam, Gouda and Alphen aan den Rijn. You are picked up at home, at school or at work within that area.
Dutch special manoeuvres, with English subtitles
The Dutch practical exam includes special manoeuvres such as reverse parking into a bay, parallel parking, a three point turn and a hill start. New Drivers filmed all of them using a DJI drone, a GoPro and a Nextbase dashcam, and made a version with English subtitles so you can prepare for the CBR interim test or practical exam.
All manoeuvres are listed on the instruction videos page, and the same explanations appear as homework in your app before you drive them.
Results and reviews
Since 2018, 190 students passed at New Drivers: 101 on the first attempt (53 percent) and 55 on the second (29 percent), so 82 percent within two exams. In 2025, 33 students passed, of whom 9 were trained in English, and 97 percent passed within two exams.
I recently got my driver's license for the first time at the age of 40, and I'm very grateful for the guidance and support throughout the learning process. Ronald was patient, professional, and always made me feel comfortable behind the wheel. He explained things clearly, helped build my confidence step by step, and created a calm learning environment.

Can I take driving lessons in English in Waddinxveen?
Yes. Ronald Kivits, the owner and only instructor of Autorijschool New Drivers, teaches in Dutch and in English. In 2025, 9 of the 33 students who passed were trained in English.
Is the theory course available in English?
Yes. ON MY WAY THEORY, the complete online theory course inside your student app, is available in English as standard, and so are the homework assignments before each lesson.
What does a driving lesson cost?
A single lesson costs 70 euro per 60 minutes. In a package the lesson price drops to 68 euro (Basic) or 67,50 euro (Complete). The trial lesson of about 60 minutes is always free and there are no registration fees.
How many lessons will I need?
Nationally a driving course takes about 42 lesson hours (source: CBR 2023). At New Drivers the average is 37 hours, and 34 hours for students who passed on their first attempt.
Do I need a Dutch theory certificate before the practical exam?
Yes. You need a valid theory certificate to take the CBR practical exam, so it is wise to start learning theory early. The theory module is included free with every package.
Is the car an automatic?
Yes. New Drivers teaches in a Volkswagen Golf e-Hybrid 50 Edition with automatic transmission. From 2026 all lessons are given in an automatic.
Can I switch from another driving school?
Yes. Request a free trial lesson first. For students switching schools there is a Switch over package of 700 euro: an intake of 60 minutes plus 10 hours of driving lessons.
Which towns does New Drivers cover?
Waddinxveen, Boskoop, Gouda, Reeuwijk, Moordrecht, Moerkapelle and Bodegraven. You are picked up at home, at school or at work within that area, and dropped off again afterwards.
Is the RIS 2.0 package available in English?
No. The RIS 2.0 package uses a Dutch practice book and Dutch scripts, so it is only available for Dutch speaking students. English speaking students follow the regular course with the ON MY WAY app in English.
